International Symposium on "Lactate, A Phoenix Rising in Exercise Physiology"

In order to hold specialized scientific-research meetings and to develop international cooperation between Iranian professors and students with internationally renowned professors in the field of sports sciences, Sport Sciences Research Institute of Iran (SSRI) is featuring an outstanding virtual event entitled "Lactate, A Phoenix Rising in Exercise Physiology". The event is scheduled for Monday October 11, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Iran Standard Time (IRST).

According to the recent studies conducted on the role and function of lactate produced due to exercise in the human body its importance has become highlighted for researchers and the direction and approach of current research studies are going to be different and more applied. “The importance of lactate and lactate shuttling in healthful living is further emphasized when lactate signaling and shuttling are dysregulated as occur in illness and injury. Like a Phoenix, lactate rises again in importance in 21st Century Biology” Professor George Brooks noted.

In this regard, International Scientific Cooperation Office in association with Research Group on Exercise Physiology at SSRI, and prominent leading experts in the world on the topics of Lactate will discuss in the symposium various functional dimensions of lactate and exercise.

Speakers include Professor Abbas Ali Gaeini, from University of Tehran at Tehran, Professor L. Bruce Gladden, from Auburn University, at Auburn who also is President of American College of Sports Medicine, Professor George Brooks, from University of California at Berkeley, Professor David Bishop, from Institute for Health and Sport Victoria University, at Melbourne, Assistant Prof. Inigo San Millan, from University of Colorado, at Colorado Springs who is also the head of trainers staff at UAE Team Emirates (Cycling), Associate Prof. Rohollah Nikooie, from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman, at Kerman, and Associate Prof. Neda Khaledi, from Kharazmi University, at Tehran.

This event will provide an update on the role lactate acts as a Phoenix rising in exercise physiology. Dr. Gladden will describe red blood cell versus plasma concentration: an overlooked problem in lactate measurement. Dr. Brooks will describe lactate shuttling during rest, exercise and after carbohydrate nutrition. Dr. Bishop will describe the role of lactate in stimulating adaptations to training. Dr. San Millan will describe lactate testing in athletes. Dr. Nikooie will describe lactate as a key metabolic intermediate in diabetes: redox-dependent gene expression regulation by lactate. And Dr. Khaledi will provide an interesting introduction on lactate, the Phoenix rising in exercise physiology.

With the coordination made, a Q/A session will be provided online in the event with the presence of all the keynote speakers. It should be noted that the event will be held virtually and free of charge, and those interested in participating in this event can participate in the room of the symposium through the following link.
