Seyed Ahmad Seyed Bagheri, in a knowledge-enhancement session on sports during the Sacred Defense at the Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, highlighted the critical role of sports in physical fitness, morale, combat skills, and

He shared operational memories and emphasized that while sports was not widely recognized early in the war, urgent operational needs showcased its importance in preparing warriors. Unfortunately, the role of sports in the Sacred Defense was not officially documented before, and this session aims to preserve and promote the understanding of sports contributions at the frontlines.

Seyed Bagheri highlighted extensive swimming training efforts organized through the Physical Education Organization and under Mohsen Rezaei's order, utilizing all provincial swimming pools to train about fifty thousand fighters. When pools were unavailable, they used oil ponds and shallow waters, teaching swimming techniques to help soldiers cross water obstacles.

He mentioned naval operations like the Iraqi Al-Amiyah docks capture, where trained fighters swam and dived under enemy surveillance, gathering intelligence vital for mission success. In the Valfajr operations, soldiers swam distances up to one kilometer to secure enemy shores, showcasing the effectiveness of advanced training.

Seyed Bagheri also emphasized the role of traditional martial arts (Zurkhaneh and Pahlevani sports) in boosting morale, cohesion, and spirit among fighters at both frontlines and rear areas. Notable athletes and martyrs fostered an environment of vitality and motivation even amid harsh war conditions, involving around 120 veteran sportsmen in these efforts.
