Abbas Khazaei, Director General of Physical Education in Kermanshah Province during the Sacred Defense, highlighted the vital role of sports in boosting morale and resilience among fighters on the front lines.

Recalling memories from the Iran-Iraq War, Khazaei emphasized that despite the harshest days of defense, sports and the presence of national champions in competition were crucial forces for maintaining readiness and uplifting the spirits of the combatants.

He noted being deeply affected by the spiritual atmosphere among fighters and the martyrs’ farewell to this world, with the profound energy conveyed by the Great Leader of the Islamic Revolution supporting them in the toughest times.

Khazaei pointed out Kermanshah’s special position during the war due to its geographic and historical importance as a frontline region. The people of the area showed exemplary courage, including courageous women who stood strong against enemy forces, reflecting the inner strength of border residents.

He stressed that sports not only maintained physical fitness but played a significant role in fostering fighting spirit. Renowned champions like the Mohabi brothers and wrestlers from Kermanshah continued to participate in provincial and national competitions despite wartime difficulties, proving that sports can sustain hope and perseverance.

Khazaei also recounted enemy aerial bombardments on Kermanshah, where the residents endured heavy casualties but remained steadfast alongside the regime with great sacrifice and patience. He honored the role of army aviation and the bravery of pilots such as the martyr Shiroodi, insisting their heroism deserves special recognition in the history of Iranian sport and resistance.

Emphasizing the importance of post-war attention, Khazaei called for focused development and reconstruction in war-affected provinces like Kermanshah, Khuzestan, and Ilam.
