Dr. Hossein Salimi, in a knowledge-enhancement session with the university sports community on activism regarding the imposed war, emphasized that global sports governance occurs without formal authority and must preserve humanistic and ethical values.

He explained that global sports governance is formed based on rules, values, and international networks, with states serving as facilitators rather than wielders of official power.

Salimi detailed that governance consists of a set of rules, behaviors, and processes guiding societies or organizations distinct from governance by force or coercion. In the international arena, no global government exists, but a network of rules governs international actors, forming global governance.

He identified four core elements of governance: moral leadership, rule of law, sustainable development, and social equality, pointing out that good governance has replaced the concept of mere development. In sports, global networks such as the International Olympic Committee and international federations promote ethical and humanistic values.

Salimi critiqued double standards in addressing countries' actions, noting Russia's suspension due to its actions in Ukraine contrasted with relative leniency toward Israel’s actions in Gaza and Palestine, highlighting inconsistencies.

He also illustrated how global sports networks coordinate rules and procedures across international competitions, fostering global sports values of respect, equality, and combating violence.

He stressed that governments should act only as facilitators, avoiding using sports as foreign policy tools and intervening only when necessary to provide facilities. Furthermore, depoliticizing sports does not mean disregarding ethical values; instead, the global sports network must uphold these humanistic and ethical principles.

In conclusion, he stated that the cohesion of Iran’s sports community in engaging with the global sports governance network and assuming responsibility against unethical actions worldwide can strengthen global values and ethics and elevate responsible activism within the sports community
