Minister of Science Highlights Achievements in Research and Innovation During Nowruz Meeting with Staff

In a Nowruz meeting with the staff of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, Mohammad Ali Zolfigol, the Minister of Science, highlighted the significant progress made in the country’s scientific and research sectors. The meeting, reported by the Public Relations Department of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science, cited the Supreme Leader’s reference to scientific advancements in his New Year speech as a source of pride and motivation for the ministry and universities.
Zolfigol emphasized the importance of the "NAN System" (National Needs Assessment System), a key initiative launched over the past two years. He revealed that 12,000 industrial and societal needs have been registered in the system, enabling researchers and students to align their projects with the country’s priorities. "The NAN System has directed the research efforts of faculty members and students toward addressing real national needs, ensuring that theses, dissertations, and research contracts are purpose-driven," he stated.
The minister also noted that the system has facilitated the targeted training of graduate students, allowing professors to admit talented students whose research topics are based on the needs identified in the NAN System. This approach, he said, enhances the relevance and impact of academic research.
Another major achievement highlighted by Zolfigol was the international indexing of scientific journals. He reported that while only 101 journals were internationally indexed before the 13th government, an additional 65 journals have been indexed in the past two years. "This is a significant step toward establishing Iran’s scientific authority on the global stage," he added.
Zolfigol also pointed to the establishment of the "Science, Research, and Technology Fund" (Sanat-e Tose'e Fonoun) as a milestone in consolidating research budgets. The fund, with an initial capital of 350 billion tomans, aims to streamline and enhance the allocation of resources for research projects.
Acknowledging Staff Efforts:
The minister praised the dedication and professionalism of the ministry’s staff, noting that positive feedback from the public and oversight reports reflect the high standards of service provided. "Working in a scientific and cultural environment that interacts with university professors, scientists, and future leaders of the country is a divine blessing. We must strive to honor this blessing through continuous effort and commitment," he said.
Addressing Housing Concerns:
Zolfigol also addressed the issue of employee welfare, particularly housing challenges in Tehran. He announced that the 13th government has initiated measures to provide housing for university staff and emphasized the need for a dedicated manager within the ministry to oversee these efforts. "Housing remains a critical issue, especially in Tehran, and we are committed to finding solutions to support our employees," he stated.
The meeting underscored the ministry’s commitment to advancing scientific research, addressing societal needs, and improving the welfare of its staff, reflecting a broader vision for the development of Iran’s higher education and research sectors.
