About the Book:
The second edition of Research Methods in Physical Education guides students on how to effectively produce and utilize research in the fields of health and human performance. Like its first edition, this version covers both quantitative and qualitative research methods and provides a step-by-step guide to writing effective research proposals and theses. Additionally, the authors demonstrate how to read, evaluate, interpret, and apply published research, as well as conduct preliminary studies in health, sports science, exercise, and recreation. This edition expands on research design frameworks to include PICO (Patient, Problem, or Population; Intervention; Comparison; and Outcomes).

The second edition is enriched with updated, illustrated examples that emphasize real-world applications of research methods. Throughout the book, the authors have selected diverse examples to provide context for a deeper understanding of research in health and human performance. To aid comprehension, the authors have included practical examples and tips. The new edition also introduces the concept of "pulse checks," which encourage students to engage in critical thinking about all aspects of research. This feature offers additional suggestions and resources to help students understand the research process. Key terms, defined and highlighted, enrich each chapter, while the end of each chapter includes practical applications to reinforce best research practices.
