In his speech, Dr. Salehi highlighted Iran’s strategic location at the crossroads of East and South Asia, emphasizing how this positioning has historically facilitated the exchange of knowledge and culture. He referenced Jundishapur University, one of the oldest universities in the world, which was honored by UNESCO in 2017 for its 1,750th anniversary.

Iran’s Nomination for the UNESCO Executive Board (2023–2027)

Dr. Salehi officially announced Iran’s candidacy for the UNESCO Executive Board, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to global collaboration, mutual understanding, and scientific and cultural exchange. He emphasized that rotation in leadership roles injects fresh perspectives into international organizations, ensuring innovation and progress.

Women’s Role in Iran’s Higher Education System

Dr. Salehi underscored the significant role of women in Iran’s academic and scientific community, stating:
    •    Over 30% of university faculty members in Iran are women.
    •    More than 50% of Iran’s 3 million university students are female.
He emphasized that Islamic teachings uphold the dignity and rights of women, allowing them to excel in academic and professional fields.

Condemnation of Disrespect Toward the Holy Quran

Referring to recent incidents of desecration against the Quran in some European countries, Dr. Salehi strongly condemned these acts, stating that such actions undermine respect and mutual understanding among nations. He called for a global commitment to religious tolerance and stressed that freedom of expression must not be misused to justify insults to sacred beliefs.

Solidarity with the Palestinian People

Dr. Salehi also voiced Iran’s support for Palestine, expressing deep sorrow over the suffering of the Palestinian people, especially women and children, amidst escalating violence in Gaza. He condemned Israel’s ongoing aggression, apartheid policies, and war crimes, emphasizing the urgency of international action to address these long-standing global challenges
