Hydration and Heat Safety During Arbaeen Pilgrimage: Expert Advice

SSRII Public Relations: As millions of Iranians prepare to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage amid extreme summer heat in Iran and Iraq, Dr. Mohammad Shariatzadeh, PhD in Exercise Physiology and faculty member at the Sports Science Research Institute of Iran (SSRC), has emphasized the critical role of hydration in preventing heat-related illnesses.

Dr. Shariatzadeh stressed the importance of drinking sufficient fluids and avoiding dehydration, which can lead to heat exhaustion, dizziness, and serious health complications. He advised pilgrims to consume hygienically packaged bottled water to minimize the risk of waterborne illnesses and maintain optimal hydration levels during the physically demanding journey.

With temperatures soaring, proper fluid intake, electrolyte balance, and sun protection are essential measures to ensure pilgrims’ safety and well-being throughout the pilgrimage.
