AI and the Future of Sports: SSRII Hosts Workshop on AI’s Transformative Role in the Industry

SSRII Public Relations: The “Future of Sports with Artificial Intelligence” workshop, led by Dr. Elham Farahani, co-founder and board member of the National Association of Artificial Intelligence of Iran, was held in hybrid format at the Sports Science Research Institute of Iran (SSRII). The session, attended by SSRII faculty members and sports industry professionals, explored AI’s revolutionary impact on modern sports.
AI in Sports: From Refereeing to Personalized Training
Dr. Farahani began by introducing artificial intelligence and its key subfields, including deep learning and generative AI. She outlined AI’s widespread applications in daily life—such as voice assistants and chatbots—before delving into its role in sports technology.
One of the major themes discussed was AI’s transformative effect on refereeing systems, offering more accurate and unbiased officiating. Additionally, AI-driven personalized training programs are optimizing workouts and nutrition plans tailored to individual athletes, enhancing performance and reducing injury risks. AI also plays a crucial role in player scouting and recruitment, as well as team management and strategy development.
AI’s Expanding Influence: Smart Stadiums, Advertising, and New Sports
Beyond performance analysis and coaching, AI is reshaping the business and security aspects of sports. The workshop highlighted AI-driven stadium security systems, including facial recognition, crowd monitoring, and predictive analytics for risk assessment. AI is also revolutionizing ticket sales and dynamic pricing models, ensuring optimized revenue generation.
Another intriguing aspect was AI-powered advertising, capable of tailoring real-time, region-specific content for audiences in different countries during live broadcasts. Moreover, AI is facilitating the design of intelligent training opponents, customized drills based on weaknesses, and even the creation of entirely new sports disciplines.
A Revolutionary Shift in Global Sports
As the session concluded, Dr. Farahani emphasized that AI is set to revolutionize the sports industry, bringing fundamental shifts in training, competition, and management at all levels. With AI’s continued advancement, the future of sports will witness unprecedented levels of efficiency, accuracy, and innovation.
