Zahedan, Iran – The 76th National Meeting of University Student Affairs Officials at University of Sistan and Baluchestan highlighted concerns about students’ physical literacy and engagement in sports, which remain low priorities both in academic settings and family life.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Fariba Mohammadi, President of SSRII, emphasized the lack of attention to students’ physical activity and sports participation. “Physical literacy and the ability to engage in sports are often overlooked, and within households, they are not seen as priorities,” she noted.
Sports and Mental Well-being
Dr. Mohammadi underscored the positive impact of sports on students’ mental health and quality of life, citing research that links physical activity to increased life expectancy, greater enthusiasm for life, and reduced risky behaviors. “There is substantial scientific evidence showing that physical activity directly contributes to improved well-being,” she stated.
Role of SSRII
She also highlighted the institute’s ongoing initiatives in the field, stating: “With 24 faculty members, 36 staff, four specialized laboratories, an innovation center, and nine research groups, our institute is actively engaged in university sports and student health.”
Founded in 1998, the Sports Science Research Institute was established to address national research and technological needs in sports science and physical well-being.
Dr. Mohammadi concluded by stressing the importance of monitoring students’ physical and mental health and called for greater efforts to enhance sports programs in universities nationwide.
