SSRII Research Project on Knowledge-Based Sports Jobs Recognized as Top Initiative in Tehran
Tehran – A groundbreaking research project led by Dr. Mohammad Hossein Ghorbani, a faculty member of SSRII, has been selected as the top research initiative in Tehran Province.
The project, titled “Optimizing the Utilization of Knowledge-Based Human Capital and Jobs to Develop Sports Enterprises in Tehran,” was completed in 2023.
During a recent session of the Provincial Research Council, attended by Dr. Ali Javadi (Director General of the Tehran Department of Sports and Youth), Dr. Fariba Mohammadi (Acting Head of SSRII), Dr. Amir Hossein Vaezi (Head of the Strategic Studies Center of the Ministry of Sports and Youth), Dr. Hassan Kalashlou (Deputy Director of the Center), and other senior officials, Dr. Ghorbani was honored for his contributions to the study.
Key Findings The research identified 62 knowledge-based sports jobs in Tehran, categorized into 10 professional fields:
• Coaching
• Sports growth consultancy and talent scouting
• Sports education • Sports event management
• Sports engineering
• Sports medicine
• Sports software and technology
• Sports management
• Sports media
• Recreational sports
The study evaluated employment potential, revealing that roles such as sports nutrition consultant, child growth assessment advisor, podiatric sports specialist, physiotherapist, and fitness club trainer hold the highest employment capacity. Conversely, positions like sports publishers, cultural sports developers, sports journalists, analysts, and academics were identified as having lower capacity for job creation.
Opportunities and Challenges Positive factors driving the development of knowledge-based sports businesses include
: • The availability of skilled, knowledge-driven workforce.
• Institutional support mechanisms.
• A strong motivation for innovation.
• Unique opportunities in the nation’s capital.
However, challenges persist, such as:
• Weak supportive policies.
• An unfavorable business environment.
• Better employment opportunities abroad.
• Legal gaps hindering the growth of sports businesses
. Strategic Recommendations
The research proposes seven key strategies for advancing knowledge-based sports enterprises:
1. Providing financial facilities.
2. Supporting businesses through innovation and entrepreneurship funds.
3. Encouraging and incentivizing knowledge-based initiatives.
4. Training a knowledge-driven workforce.
5. Building market opportunities.
6. Implementing supportive legislation.
7. Strengthening professional and sectoral organizations.
The findings offer a comprehensive and practical framework for optimizing the use of human resources and fostering the growth of knowledge-based sports jobs.
