Iran Claims Four Prominent Seats in the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF)

In a significant achievement for National University Sports Federation of Iran, four representatives from the Islamic Republic of Iran have been appointed to key commissions within the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF).

This milestone reflects Iran’s growing influence and expertise in the realm of collegiate athletics across Asia. The Iranian appointees and their respective commissions are as follows:

 • Dr. Fahimeh Mohammadhasan, SSRII Faculty Member: Member of the Planning and Development Commission

 • Hadi Bashirian: Member of both the University Sports Technical Commission and the Branding and Marketing Commission

 • Dr. Hamid Ghasemi: Member of the Media and Communications Commission

 • Dr. Ebrahim Alidoust Ghahfarokhi: Member of the Education and Research Commission

Dr. Mostafa Afshari, Acting President of National University Sports Federation of Iran, lauded the appointments, describing them as a testament to Iran’s growing stature in Asian university sports. “These appointments not only reflect the professional competence of our representatives but also open new pathways for fostering excellence in university sports within Iran. With the engagement of these distinguished scholars and practitioners, we anticipate substantial progress in academic and athletic initiatives,” he remarked. Dr. Afshari also underscored the importance of gender representation, highlighting the inclusion of Dr. Fahimeh Mohammadhasan in the Planning and Development Commission. “In alignment with FISU’s global commitment to gender equity, the appointment of a female Iranian representative signifies the active participation and increasing prominence of Iranian women in international sports governance,” he noted. He further emphasized the broader implications of these appointments, adding, “This achievement is a gateway to enhanced international collaboration in university sports, allowing Iran to engage in meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange with other nations.”

The AUSF, a cornerstone of collegiate sports in Asia, wields significant influence over the policies and initiatives shaping university athletics across the region. Decisions made within its commissions play a critical role in driving innovation, enhancing participation, and advancing the overall quality of sports in member countries. Iran’s success in securing these influential positions signals its readiness to contribute meaningfully to the strategic direction of university sports across Asia.
